| June 2008 - 2nd State Selection Shoot - Fraser Coast Fraser Coast had been inundated with flooding rains a week before the shoot. The range was just starting to dry out when heavy rain on Saturday resulted in a lot of water lying around. One person managed to get their vehicle bogged during set-up but apart from that the shoot went smoothly and fine conditions on the Sunday made for pleasant shooting. The inclement weather reduced numbers and twenty eight shooters attended the event. Thanks to the Fraser Coast crew and other members who assisted with the setting up and pulling down of the range. The targets were challenging and presented good variety to test the shooters. The winner of the lucky draw prize of a slab of shells was Brisbane Junior Ben Robinson. Results are as follows : AA Grade A Grade B Grade C Grade Ladies Juniors Veterans |
May 2008 - 1st State Selection Shoot Gympie A good crowd of forty one shooters attended the first of this years state selection shoots. Friday and Saturday saw the set-up group setting targets trajectories and stand positions. Special thanks to those who gave up their time to help set-up and pull down. Thanks also to Brisbane and Fraser Coast for the loan of traps during the weekend. A trap failure whilst setting up necessitated the use of one manual trap on the course. Sunday morning saw the arrival of strong winds that which persisted for the day making the course quite challenging. Winner of the lucky draw slab of shells was local Gympie member Greg Offer. Results are as follows : AA Grade A Grade B Grade C Grade Ladies Juniors Veterans |
Aug 2007 - 3rd State Selection Shoot Brisbane A challenging layout of targets were presented to the competitors by Dennis Dinte, Rodney Stin and with some direction from Leo Cao and Mark Farrow. These 4 made up the jury for the day.The first round produced a highest score of 23 by Peter Tobin who continue in the second with amazing 25. To say that most of the other competitors were blown away that a 25 could achieve on the course presented is an under statement. Well shot Mr Tobin. The third and final round 18 was the highest score shot and Dennis Dinte and Peter Shuttlewood share the honours, an achievement that most of the shooters only dreamed of. |
June 2007 - 2nd State Selection Shoot Fraser Coast Fraser Coast -- 2nd Selection Shoot 10th June 2007 Usually over the Queens Birthday long weekend, Fraser Coast is awash with water from the heavens. This year we were blessed with this annual occurrence happening a few days before leaving us with a dry, but cold weekend. This certainly helped for those that chose to camp out at the range, unlike last year when we were nearly all washed away. Over the past few years Fraser Coast has turned it on with target quality for this annual shoot & this year was again true to form. We all had a reality shock & the targets were a breath of fresh air to the competitor. The target selection had everything & with the stands being moved during rounds this made the target variety even better with an Old Style FITASC theme. Just when you realised why you missed a target & thought you were sure to connect with it in the next round, it was all change again. The movement of the stands was not just a few meters, but to 50 meters, many in the opposite direction changing left to right & right to left. This certainly shows competitors the difference a few Meters can make to target angles & really makes you focus on the target trajectory, not just shooting by the numbers. Many thanks to Leo Cao, John Ryan and the Fraser Coast members for another tough but very enjoyable shoot. With the State titles at this branch on 29 th & 30th September all I can say is keep it up gentlemen. Anyone making the effort to attend this event are sure to be entertained. |
May 2007 - 1st State Selection Shoot Gympie The First Selection shoot of the year at the Gympie club this year was shot for the first time totally with Automatic traps with the help of the State, Mark Farrow & Brisbane Sporting Clays. The State has purchase another trap for each club to help reduce & eventually for the smaller clubs, eradicate the use of Manual traps altogether. With the increase importance of Workplace health & Safety issues (Yes, the Government are even in our Sport) this can only help. The Queensland Sporting Clays Association has provided 2 Automatic traps, fully paid for, to each of the clubs in Queensland over the past two years. The next time when someone questions what they get out of the State, here is a significant item that all of the members can see, especially to the smaller of our member clubs who have already put these traps to good use. The Greeting from Doug Austin & the Gympie members to make us all welcome is always cordial & with the full use of Automatic traps this year this allowed the Gympie members a chance to shoot the full programme without having to give up their shooting time to man the traps. Congratulations again to the Gympie Branch & their members for their cooperation in providing their grounds to host the first Queensland Selection shoot for 2007. |
